Due to the increase in the number of crimes committed with the use of weapons, it seems relevant to consider the issue of methods of countering the illicit trafficking of firearms. One of the most effective ways to detect and seize illegally stored firearms, ammunition, explosives and explosive devices is to conduct a public operational search event "inspection of premises, buildings, structures, terrain areas and vehicles". Meanwhile, in the practice of law enforcement agencies, situations often arise in which the courts refuse to issue orders for such measures with penetration into the home. The study of the grounds for conducting operational search activities in their logically consistent connection, conducted within the framework of this article, allows us to conclude that there are sufficient legal grounds in federal legislation that allow, upon receipt of relevant operationally significant information, to conduct a public inspection of premises in order to detect and seize illegally stored weapons, ammunition, explosives and explosive devices.
