Introduction. The study of neuropsychic stability and accentuations of character among officers, who perform professional duties both in regular and in difficult extreme conditions, is of particular importance for determining their professional effectiveness. Neuropsychic stability is one of the criteria for selecting officers for service in different conditions, while character accentuations are a risk factor for maladaptation. The goal is to reveal the features of the relationship between neuropsychic stability and character accentuations of law enforcement officers serving under regular conditions and officers seconded to the North Caucasus region. Materials and Methods. An empirical study was conducted on a sample of 206 officers of the Internal Affairs bodies. Group 1 (n1=97) consists of officers from the joint police squad selected for service assignment in the North Caucasus region, and group 2 (n2=109) is made up of officers serving under regular conditions. Respondents were diagnosed via two methods: the Individual Typological Questionnaire (ITQ+) developed by K. V. Sugonyaeva and B. K. Pashnev’s 12 Animals projective Test. Results and Discussion. Using the methods of mathematical statistics (comparative, correlation and regression analysis), differences are revealed in the characteristics of neuropsychic stability and character accentuations of officers of the two groups; as well as differences according to the level of neuropsychic stability; the mechanisms of the relationship between neuropsychic stability and character accentuations of officers in both groups are established; accentuations of character, which are predictors of neuropsychic instability, are determined. Conclusions. On the whole, current law enforcement officers demonstrate a moderately stable structure of individual personality traits, an average level of neuropsychic stability and adaptability. The significant differences in the level and characteristics of neuropsychic stability and the intensity of character accentuations between the groups are established. Officers seconded to the North Caucasus region have a greater adaptive potential than those officers who serve under regular conditions. There are different configurations of relationships between neuropsychic stability and character accentuations of officers according to the type of tasks. With a high level of neuropsychic stability, accentuations do not have characteristic manifestations and, in general, do not influence the effectiveness of the activities performed by the officers.
