The article gives a socio-philosophical analysis of the conflict of the individual and society in terms of manifestations of sharp forms of social oppositeness. The author notes that the interests of social groups can not only coincide with the interests of individuals, but also to confront them, having target oppositeness. The group can not exist without individuals (persons) and their functional interaction. At the same time it acts as additional opposition to its members, but usually not as something antagonistic. Conflicts between individuals and social groups arise partly as a way of resolving the antagonistic contradictions, partly because of the internal contradictions in the indi-vidual. He always has more interests than able to satisfy any of the groups which he belongs to. Ar-ticle gives the definition of «interest», analyzed its difference from the «needs» and «wants» of the individual.
