New areas in the studies of the D'yakovo sites

The paper examines new areas in the studies of the D'yakovo sites. Amongother things it emphasizes the relevance of examining such objects of research as treasurehoards that date to the first centuries of the new age, with seven hoards of this periodhaving been found in the Moskva River Basin alone; forts known as satellites, whichare small fortified settlements located near larger settlements; unfortified settlementsin the low-lying flood-prone areas. The results of the spatial GIS-analysis of the lateD'yakovo sites in the Moskva River Basin are presented. It has been established that theconcentration of the settlements and, therefore, the area of the highest man-made impactcovers the middle reaches of the river. By estimating the thickness of the occupation layer,it has been established that three settlements in this region - D'yakovo, Uspenskoye andIl'yinskoye - can claim to have been the settlements of 'the first-order' in this region.
