Novel method of functionalization of carbon-encapsulated magnetic nanoparticles

Novel method of functionalization of metal-carbon nanoparticles is described. The main principle is covalent binding of amine group-containing molecules, i.e. proteins, to bovine serum albumin adsorbed on the carbon shell of nanoparticles. Streptavidin was used as model protein. Proposed method is simple; all steps are carried out in mild conditions. Obtained conjugates of magnetic nanoparticles with biomolecules can be used in different fields of biomedicine.
