In the article, for the first time, on the basis of disparate sources, information about the departure from Russia in February 1920 by N.P. Kondakova, I.A. Bunin, V.N. Muromtseva and E.N. Yatsenko is given. The emigrants went on a ship «Sparta» to Istanbul, in a small cabin, settled in a quarantine house, spent the night at the embassy, but subsequently received visas from the Bulgarian consul and went to Sofia. They were settled in the Bulgarian hotel “Continental”. Bunin and Muromtseva met their friends P.A. Nilus and A.M. Fedorov, who introduced them to the Bulgarian intelligentsia. N.P. Kondakova and I.A. Bunin (with the assistance of B. Penev) were elected to the professors of Sofia University. However, Bunin refused this offer, and in connection with the incidents that happened to him (the terrorist attack at the Odeon Theater at a lecture by P.Ya. Ryss, theft of medals, books and money) in mid-March, together with VN. Muromtseva, went to Serbia, and then to Paris at the invitation of the Tsetlins. N.P. Kondakov continued his scientific and teaching activities in Sofia, and then in 1922 he moved to Prague, where he lived and worked until the end of his life (1925). At that time, the authority of Academician Kondakov was at the highest level: Bulgarian, French and Romanian Academies of Sciences elected him to a full member (1923-1924). In 1923 I.A. Bunin, P.B. Struve and A.V. Kartashev seriously discussed Bunin’s nomination for the Nobel Prize and wanted to seek help from Kondakov. After Kondakov’s death Bunin and Muromtseva did not forget him and mentioned him more than once in their memoirs. The relationship between the Bunins and the Kondakovs and L.F. Zurov is described separately.
