Do Chinese students studying in Russia need information from Russian internet sites?

Information needs of students should be considered both in the selection and organization of language and speech content, and in the system of tasks that ensure content acquisition. As the information needs tend to change with time it is advisable to monitor them systematically. The article examines one of the aspects of the information needs of Chinese students - the need for information contained on Russian Internet sites. The results of the study that describes the needs of Chinese students in obtaining information from Russian Internet sites are presented. The authors present the results of the survey conducted for the students of St. Petersburg State University using Google forms (https://googl/forms/RxcJriYdf3gsS5qD3). The main results of the study are as follows: Internet for modern students is the main source of information, as almost all of the students surveyed use Russian websites to obtain it. Students use the information in Russian to search for materials for a dissertation or to obtain information about the life of Russian society. The students showed most interest in what is written about China in Russian, how China and the Chinese are treated, how the relations between Russia and China are being developed. When reading Internet sources in Russian, many Chinese students experience difficulties in understanding vocabulary, grammar and phraseology.
