The article is a review of the monograph by V. K. Shokhin “Philosophical Theology: Canon and Variation”, published in 2018. The author's systematization of the philosophical theology brand in the Anglo-American view is considered on the basis of the latest publicistic editions of such authors as S. Davis, S. Evans, Z. Manis, R. Swinburne, A. Plantinga and others. It is shown that the main idea of the monograph is the understanding of philosophical theology as a modern intercultural project, as well as substantiation of the need to return analytical theology to the apologetic vector of development and introduction of philosophical and theological competences into the realm of biblical exegesis. The author of the book rightly emphasizes that philosophical theology has made a huge contribution to clarifying the boundaries of the human reason, but without recognizing the fact of the limited nature of rational knowledge, development in this area is impossible. Studying Christian theology, V. K. Shokhin proposes to rely on the existing patristic experience and, when it may be useful, not to ignore the achievements of the religious mind of other traditions.
