On development of traffic police officers' Professional skills and qualities to counteract provocative behaviour of road users

The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs pays great attention to the professional advancement of the officers of territorial agencies, professional activity of Traffic Police officers in particular. Basing on the results of the scientific research, recommendations of the Russian MIA as well as pedagogical experience of teachers of psychological subjects and traffic police officers a special programme of studying within moral and psychological training was developed. Establishing skills to counteract citizens' provocative behaviour is carried out in a purposeful and systematic way of conducting lessons, involving chief police officers and experienced officers, demonstrating qualified professional and psychologically-professional actions of the officers, through multiple repeating of these actions, video-taping play education with follow-up professional and psychological analysis of the officers' actions. The joint activity of the psychologist and the chief of the department according to the special programme of studies designed for traffic police officers must take into consideration peculiarities of provocative behaviour of the road users, the most common difficult situations and specifics of citizen's complaints about the officers' actions.
