In the article, on the example of the languages of the indigenous peoples of Siberia and the Far North, some characteristic features of idiom languages are considered. They are recognized as languages of small ethnic groups, isolated in various respects from any major language. A preliminary list of idiom languages of Siberia and the Far North is given. These linguistic formations are united by a number of common features: some features in the phonetic and grammatical structure, the specificity of the sociolinguistic situation, the lack of prospects for further development. The importance of a careful study of such languages from a typological point of view is pointed out. For the further development of the concept of language-idiom, it is necessary to reveal the hidden, non-trivial characteristics of endangered languages and, ultimately, to develop criteria for classifying linguistic formations as idioms (in the extended interpretation of this term).
