The article explores the meaning of linguistic norm and codification. Major characteristics of coded normative words are listed. The author gives examples of coded and non-coded English politically correct vocabulary which is analyzed in terms of its correspondence to the norm. The paper depicts the latest trends regarding political correctness on the basis of official speeches made by famous American politicians.
