The article compares the lyrical mood in the verses and songs by Bulat Okudzhava and Lo Ta-yu. Russian B. Okudzhava and Chinese Lo Ta-yu (.^Afe) are famous bards and path-breakers of a whole trend in the field of bard songs of the two countries. Both authors convey a sad and melancholic mood. Based on Mikhail Bakhtin's concept of “outsideness”, we reveal the social reasons for the appearance of the author's songs by B. Okudzhava and Lo Ta-yu against the background of the bard boom in China and Russia. The article presents a comparative and typological analysis of images of home and a woman. Nostalgia in the songs by the bard poets is caused by worries about the destruction of a home, which is a sourse of both melancholy and motivation for salvation. We have considered various ways of expressing melancholy, the influence of religious philosophy and Buddhist culture on the songs and verses by B. Okudzhava and Lo Ta-yu. It has been revealed that there are typologically similar ways of expressing nostalgia in the works of both bards, which facilitate the intercultural dialogue.
