At the next stage in the development of literary science, the authors of the article turn to the problem of rhythm in a work of verbal art. Undertaking a review of the main characteristics and functions of rhythm identified by leading scientists, the authors of the article focus on the influencing mythological function of rhythm, its ability to oppose organized speech material to colloquial everyday. Rhythm and myth, gravitating towards each other, enhance mutual influence, which contributes to the use of this feature in different areas of human culture in order to increase the impact of verbal rhythmic material that effectively overcomes the barriers of rational comprehension. In the study of rhythm, the authors of the article adhere to the following logic: the analysis of the works moves from an appeal to the internalized, implicitly presented theme of rhythm in the poetic work of B. Pasternak, to the study of the demonstratively manifested influencing function of rhythm in the borderline poetic texts of an advertising nature of V. Mayakovsky and ends with the observation of the revival of the archaic mythologized function of rhythm in the postmodern novel. The article discusses the role of rhythm in modern culture, provides examples from lyrical, prose works and advertising poetic texts. The authors come to the conclusion about the invariably affecting function of rhythm and the creation of a modern cultural myth with the help of rhythm.
