Therapeutic potential of resveratrol using as a dietary supplement in post-traumatic stress disorder treatment

Бесплатный доступ

We found that a resveratrol-enforced diet improves anxiety symptoms and endocrine status in animals with experimental post-traumatic stress-disorder (PTSD). In the model, resveratrol administration decreased the symptoms of anxiety, which manifested in animals spending more time in the open arms and less time in the closed arms of the elevated plus maze (EPM). We believe that resveratrol taken as a dietary supplement restores the signaling from adrenal cortex ACTH receptors commonly desensitized in PTSD and also exerts a regulatory influence on tissue metabolism of glucocorticoids, also 6β-hydroxycorticosterone decrease included. Furthermore, we discovered a dietary intake of resveratrol to reverse a PTSD-mediated increase in serum adrenaline.
