The paper is concerned with one of the main concepts of the world literature, the concept of “life”. The place of the concept in Russian literature of the XIX century is studied. The essence of the concept is studied on the examples of Pushkin, Gogol and Dostoevsky’s works. Examples from the works of other authors are provided.
