On the formation of the institute of material liability of parties to an employment contract in Russia

The article is discussed some issues of the formation of the institution of liability of the parties to the employment contract. A number of historical stages in the formation of this institution of domestic labor law are distinguished. It is noted that at present, not only persons in labor relations, but also other categories of citizens are liable. It is concluded that the institution of material liability of the parties to an employment contract has undergone a long evolution, starting with labor acts adopted at the end of the 19th century, up to the modern period associated with the adoption of the Labour Code of the Russian Federation in 2001, other federal laws and by-laws, governing this type of legal responsibility.
