On the structural method of studying the works of old Russian art (from the experience of research)

In the article the author generalizes the experience of studying the works of Old Russian art on the basis of the structural analysis method developed by the author together with N.V. Parfentieva. Modifications of this method make it possible to study works of both music and fine arts and to obtain the most reliable data on the features of the author's creativity in conditions of medieval canon domination in the art. The author reveals the method of structural formulae analysis of handwritten old-Russian chants, approved in the works of both scientists. He offers the element-structural method for studying works of manuscript decorative arts especially convincingly and fruitfully working in the study of artistic ornamentation. The researcher reveals the essence of each modifications of the method, shows their practical application and gives examples of the obtained results.
