On thermodynamics of polytetrafluoroethylene friction and its compositions

Бесплатный доступ

The article considers possibility of applying a thermodynamic approach to a tribosystem including polytetrafluoroethylene and its compositions, in particular, using the concept of entropy. It discusses one of the friction process characteristics - formation of dissipative structure under friction, leading to a decrease in the production of entropy, hence, the wear rate. The paper presents an argument for entropy production measurement under friction of a metal-fluoroplastic pair on the example of tribotechnic tests of a metal fluoroplastic liner on a steel counterbody. The study of wear and friction products was carried out. By changing external factors, such as load and speed, it is possible to increase the probability of formation of dissipative structures, thereby reducing the wear rate. Further research into the formation of dissipative structures under friction can result in development of materials with significantly improved wear resistance.
