On the probabilistic approach to the proof of convergence of the Syracuse sequence to a cycle

The paper describes a variant of the probabilistic approach to proving the convergence of the Syracuse sequence to the cycle (1, 2, 4) which uses a probabilistic estimate of the possible growth and decrease of the sequence members. Analogies of the probable approach in justification of solvability for some other problems are specified.
