On the Perception of Global University Rankings by Academic Communities Around the World: Latin America and the Caribbean

This article opens a series of materials refl ecting the results of a study examining the perception of global university rankings by contemporary academic communities in diff erent regions of the world. The work analyzes the opinions of education researchers and university representatives in Latin America and the Caribbean regarding the most widely used global university rankings and their impact on university strategic development and academic policy. Key criticisms of existing methodologies are highlighted, and regional diff erences in their perception are described. Possible approaches to creating alternative rankings are discussed.
