The article continues a series of publications on the perception of global university rankings by academic communities in diff erent regions. Aft er analyzing the situation in Latin America, the authors turn to the experience of the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Seven areas of criticism of ratings are identifi ed and considered: problems of reputational measurements, ignoring teaching, hidden reproduction of hierarchies, increasing inequality, subordination of management to ratings, Anglo-American dominance and methodological shortcomings. The article analyzes how ratings act as a tool for redistributing capital and legitimizing the diff erentiation of universities.
