On the Possibilities of Applying the Statistical Framework for Measuring Tourism Sustainability (SF-MST)

The article discusses statistical approaches to assessing the sustainability of tourism within the framework of the UNWTO SF-MST project. Much attention is paid to the need for systematic collection and analysis of data covering the economic, social and environmental spheres of human activity in order to ensure the sustainable development of the tourism industry. The importance of standardization of methods and terminology at the international level is emphasized in order to increase the comparability of data and improve manageability in the tourism sector. The article highlights four key aspects of the implementation of the SF-MST system, including broad coverage, use of existing standards, a modular approach and orientation to subnational levels. The classification of tourist regions according to the level of sustainability is also presented, which can contribute to the formation of effective development strategies.
