6-Fluoro-3-hydroxypyrazine-2-carboxamide (favipiravir) was one of the drugs recommended for the treatment of COVID-19. As with other drugs, the issue of disposal of expired medicinal substances is relevant for favipiravir. In the present study we investigated a method for possible chemical utilization of favipiravir by its reaction with arynes (1,2-dehydrobenzenes) to form isoquinolines, usable in practice.
