В статье рассматривается история богословского употребления термина «персона». У Тертуллиана термин упреждает каппадокийское тринитарное понятие «ипостаси». Блаж. Августин указал на такие элементы человеческой персоны как самосознание и свободную волю. Несмотря на многозначность термина «персона», современных западных богословов наряду с проблемой Божественной персональности интересует развитие концепции человеческой персоны, как «образа Троицы» и «образа Христа».
