The Sutherland-Einstein hypothesis is considered within the framework of a geometric approach based on a multidimensional metric. The analysis leads to the conclusion that any massive rotating body must have a fundamental magnetic field of the dipole type. In real astrophysical objects, this field is largely shielded and distorted by induced charges and currents. The paper discusses the application of this hypothesis to the problem of determining the magnetic fields of such a class of objects as hot Jupiters, in which, due to strong tidal effects, the screening mechanisms should be the same.
