Justify the author's choice in early German textbooks for learning to read

The article examines patterns of legitimization used in early modern German primers and textbooks. The authors, mostly Protestant teachers, justified their respective decisions to publish a textbook, their choices of material and its arrangement within the book by referring to the good and bad precedents as well as to the advantages of the solution proposed by themselves.
