The article touches upon the problem of training students majoring in Philology, taking into consideration the latest achievements in the sphere of education. To be more specific it considers the need to examine the process of integration and possibility of integrated study at school while the professional competence of a language and literature teacher is being formed. The author offers the system of methods of teaching students within the frame of the elective course "Integrative approach to teaching philological subjects at secondary school", which can assist improvement of professional training under condition of new educational paradigm.
