The analysis of the image of peacock in D. H. Lawrence's Wintry Peacock demonstrates its close correlation to other characters' images, the narrator included, as well as to the plot and the conflict of the short story. The image of peacock is created in two aspects, both as the actual bird mentioned all over the short story and its elements contributing to female character's image. Feminine side prevails in peacock's image. Mrs. Goyte is identified with this bird, and her favourite peacock Joey can be considered as her personification. However, Joey is a man's name and Mrs. Goyte's husband, Alfred, hates the bird as if it were a rival of his.
