The article analyzes the educational migration of Syrian youth, which has been one of the most pressing socio-demographic processes since the beginning of the crisis in Syria in 2011. Increased instability in the political, economic and humanitarian spheres has caused a massive outflow of Syrian students and graduate students seeking to continue their education abroad. This phenomenon has become not only an individual strategy for youth adaptation to extreme conditions, but also an important factor affecting the sustainability of the national education system, the labor market, and the country’s recovery potential. The aim of the study is to address the current gap in empirical analysis regarding educational migration, its causes, and consequences, particularly as existing research predominantly focuses on general or macro-analytical perspectives, with a primary emphasis on labor migration. There is an increasing need for comprehensive sociological research based on data collected both within the country and in the host countries. The novelty of the authors’ research lies in the identification of cause-and-effect relationships influencing the decision of young educational migrants to return to Syria or stay abroad, as well as in the development of proposals for educational and migration policy.
