This paper aimed to examine social distance and point out possible determinants that favor more tolerant relations between groups. The research was done on a sample of 45 principals in secondary and primary schools. The assumption went in the direction that there is a difference in the social distance with respect to certain sociodemographic variables, however, although the difference is visible in some variables, it is not statistically significant and this leads us to a larger sample, however sports, associations, education, and activities could certainly be factors that contribute reducing social distance and improving intergroup relations. Attempts to create a harmonious environment for human life and functioning in society are important for tolerance. The time in which one lives raises an important question: How to reduce the social distance towards others? Involvement in numerous cultural and sports activities, various associations, exchange of opinions, getting to know other cultures, acquiring knowledge about the possibilities of getting rid of stereotypes and prejudices have an important place for better and more humane relationships. Based on the results obtained, no significant relationship was found between social distance in relation to the function performed. This shows that all these characteristics are not a big factor influencing the good management of educational institutions and do not have a big impact.
