The images of "night" and "dream" in Bei Dao’s poetry

The poetry style of Bei Dao is an unusual phenomenon of the Chinese literature of XX-th century. He lives and writes in two worlds. Bei Dao is a legend and a literary giant of 1980th in China, his works have affected the whole generation and have inspired reforms of democratic movement, which influenced on accelerated change of the country. In the West he is a reminder of the Chinese reprisal and intolerance, a mistery poet. Such different reactions to creativity of Bei Dao underline metamorphoses of the poet - from uncompromising position of the young man singing of revolt in China of the beginning of 1989 to a thoughtful poetic voice of the reference period in the West. This article deals with the images of «night» and «dream» in Bei Dao's poetry.
