Images of the Battle of Stalingrad in Soviet feature films

Based on archival documents and published sources, the article is the first study of images of the battle of Stalingrad presented in Soviet feature films. In the focus of attention are the images created in such films as “Days and Nights” (1944), “The Turning Point” (1945), “The Battle of Stalingrad” (1949), “The Soldiers” (1956), “Retaliation” (1967), “Hot Snow” (1972) and “Stalingrad” (1989). It is concluded that different periods of the development of Soviet society saw different and differentiating cinematographic stories about the battle of Stalingrad and its images. These films have been marked in the collective memory of Soviet people reflecting the crucial battle in the Great Patriotic War.
