The revival, preservation and development of native languages have always been a priority in the multifaceted activities of public organizations and associations of indigenous peoples. However, these public associations have never been studied as the separate elements of language policy. Analyzing the public organizations activities, the author reviews the study cases of social responsibility for preserving native languages and the impact of ethnic public associations of indigenous peoples on language policy in the region. The research investigates the public organizations of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) as the actors of language policy from the standpoint of preserving the public functions of the native languages. The survey findings can be useful for the further comprehensive study on the influence of ethnic public organizations and associations on regional and state language policy.
