The relationship between the personality and society are one of the principal issues of philosophy along with other humanities. In this article, the author attempts to perform three pivotal approaches to this problem and identify the most relevant one in modern society. In this regard, the paper analyses the theories of the founder of psychoanalysis S. Freud. He considered personality as a set of biological factors highlighting three layers in its structure. Besides, the article reviews the works of neo-Hegelianists, for example, B. Croce, asserting the primacy of society over the personality, the whole over the individual, and the humanistic concept of man by Erich Fromm, who argued that the personality is irreducible to society. The third approach is considered to be the most effective in relation to modern society.
