Reading for specific purposes in foreign language classes in a non-linguistic university using artificial intelligence technologies

The article touches artificial intelligence (AI) technologies and describes some examples of their application in foreign language classes while working on reading for specific purposes. The article demonstrates peculiarities of using various digital tools at all stages of reading instruction: pretextual, textual and post-textual. The advantages of using AI technologies for both students and teachers are characterized, such as the personalization of learning, the objectivity of assessing the results obtained, economy of resources when planning the educational process, timely feedback, access to a large amount of authentic material. The prospects for using artificial intelligence are assessed from the point of view of methodological, organizational, psychological and social algorithms of the educational process. The author points out the ambiguity of the consequences of introducing AI into foreign language teaching in higher education. The article emphasizes the need for academic control and the use of AI together with traditional methods and techniques based on the principle of complementarity.
