The paper discusses the methodology of teaching students to create three-dimensional models using the AutoCAD system in the course of engineering graphics, used by students enrolled in the specialty 09.03.04 "Software engineering". Aspects are presented that need to be highlighted when mastering the subject, to ensure interdisciplinary links with the discipline of "Computer graphics", which students study later. When learning the methods of constructing models in the course of engineering graphics, it is suggested to consider various types of models in more detail: networks, procedural surfaces, NURBS surfaces, and solids. To ensure the consistency and continuity of the educational process, it is recommended at the stage of familiarization with computer-aided design systems to show the main differences in their functionality - creating objects, the internal format of their storage - and demonstrate the various editing options that result from these differences.
