The study deals with the quality issue of foreign language teaching that is particularly relevant for non-linguistic universities, where language is an applied tool for achieving practical goals in business, economics and other fields of expertise. The paper presents the main advantages of such communicative method as a case study while teaching English language (a combination of theory and practice, the search skills and business communication skills development). The primary disadvantages of case studies include the long process of designing a training module, an objective assessment of knowledge, the personal involvement and contribution of each student to solving the problem at the heart of the case. The research proves that the case study method is useful and effective when teaching business English to students with different language background. The authors analyze the progress in students’ communicative skills and emotional contacts development, their ability to live in the dialogue environment and present the criteria for assessing learning outcomes.
