The article clarifies the specifics of educational evaluation based on the analysis of the philosophical, psychological, pedagogical, content of the concepts «estimate», «evaluation»,«assessment», «assessment activity», «educational evaluation». It is proved that educational evaluation has specific entity (the participants of the educational process), the object and the subject of evaluation (of the student), the evaluation criteria (characteristics of the knowledge, skills, attributes), methods, forms (quantitative and qualitative value judgments), the evaluation function (stimulating, diagnostic, landmark, etc.), in addition, characterizes the personality, metasubject, subject of the student achieved through its inclusion in the educational activity.
