Assessment of the students nutrition and its role in the formation of risk factors of alimentary diseases

The purpose of this study was to analyze the actual nutrition of students in Ulan-Ude during the educational process, and to evaluate risk of the nutritional disorders. The study involved 95 students (30 boys and 65 girls). Assessment of a nutritional status was conducted under the program of the Research Institute of Nutrition of the RAMS “Analysis of the state of human nutrition” and based on a frequency analysis. It was found that the average BMI for boys was normal - 22.9, while 27.3 percent of them were found to be overweight; the CFA was 1.46. The corresponding BMI for girls was 20.7, overweight rates were 10%, insufficient weight was found in 15% of the girls; CFA was 1.47. The diet of both groups of students was insufficient and unbalanced. The shortage of proteins (%, respectively, for boys and girls) was: - 49.5 and 46.9; excess of total fats: +27.3 and +32.5; the excess of saturated fatty acids: +27.3 and +27.5; a deficiency of PUFA: - 54.6 and - 41.3; the excess of sucrose: +9.1 and + 10.0. It was also found that the diet of the both groups had the lack of calcium, magnesium, iron, vitamins A, Bh B2, C and niacin. It is concluded that the revealed disturbances in nutrition serve as risk factors of such diseases as metabolic syndrome, obesity, ischemic heart disease, arterial hypertension and diabetes mellitus type II.
