Limitations of Socio-Cultural Approach of Computer Games Research

Despite its relatively short history, the study of computer games has become a specialized disci-pline. Over the past decades, a significant number of works have been published on their various aspects. At the same time, there are a number of problems associated with the lack of a unified terminology regarding the object of research and the loss of the field of view of the study of various components of the influence of computer games on modern society. A partial solution to these problems is possible through the use of a socio-cultural approach complemented by economic and technical components. At the same time, such a design also has its limitations related to the blurring of cultural boundaries in the modern world, textocentrism, and the omission of affective and bodily experiences of players who are able to enhance and neutralize cultural and social features.
