Introduction: the article is devoted to the development of the system of public services provided to the population. The provision of services is an integral part of the social production of any country, improving the quality of public administration directly depends on the introduction of effective management techniques. The authors consider the evolutionary process of the system of public services, consider in detail the concept of "service" in a scientific context, while highlighting the problems that negatively affect the final result - the availability of public services and the satisfaction of the population with the quality of services provided. Materials and Methods: the normative basis of the study is the legislation regulating public relations in the provision of services to the population, materials of law enforcement practice, previously published scientific papers. The Result of the study: the most problematic aspects of the provision of public services to citizens are summarized. Findings and Conclusions: The authors conclude by suggesting ways to improve the efficiency and quality of public services.
