Transformation of the terms and stock phrases is one of the key features of Andrey Platonov’s individual style. Unique characteristics of the reformed and new terms’ use as well as bureaucratese and phraseological locutions’ employment in Andrey Platonov’s story “Kotlovan” are analyzed. The abundance of bureaucratese and cliché stands out from the first lines of the text. The goal of the article is to retrace how new terminology, bureaucratese, and phraseological locutions influence peoples’ perception of the world and become one of the veins of language transformation. The used terms, bureaucratese, and phraseological locutions change their conventional meaning and reflect the authors’ philosophy, his personal worldview. Transformation of terminology, phraseology, and bureaucratese is inseparably connected with new reality developing with the coming of the new regime: new terms evolve from vocabulary of limited use, as a result, the story characters do not understand the terms’ meaning and have limited knowledge about the areas of their possible use.
