The dangerous and destructive information: the Caucasian aspects of the problem

The history of the mountain peoples in the North Caucasia, including the traditional respect for the ancestors, is the source of their modern ethnic psychology and identity. Therefore, the social and cultural development determines the increased interest in the results of historical research in Caucasia. However, since the late 80s of the XXth century a great number of publications offer declarative statements, distorted historical facts, and inaccurate conclusions. False interpretation of the concept "national patriotism" by some historians leads to the overestimation of the contribution of their ancestors and underestimating the input of the neighbors. The rise of ethnic nationalism and the crisis, which have affected the North Caucasian peoples, result not only in the search for the national idea, but also create ethnocentrical historical schemes that provoke separation and tension in the region. A.G. Kuzmin argues that similar nationalistic trends occur following the breakup of the USSR, its economy and ideology. This leads to hundreds of thousands of victims - civil war starts in the mind, and then shifts to the streets of the former Soviet Union.
