Antipsychotic therapy has a high psychopharmacotherapeutic potential in the treatment of schizophrenia, in maintaining the level of social functioning of patients. The clarification of the adaptive potential in schizophrenic patients with motor undesirable phenomena, namely akathisia, seems to be a relevant topic. Objective: to study the adaptive abilities of schizophrenic patients with akathisia against the background of ongoing antipsychotic therapy. Materials and Methods. The survey included 250 inpatients with schizophrenia. All patients were examined using the Barnes Akathisia Scale (BARS). Adaptation evaluation was carried out according to the method of G.V. Logvinovich. The evaluation of adaptation and level of social functioning was carried out using the SASS self-questionnaire. Results and Discussion. In patients with akathisia, the formation of unfavorable types of adaptation was revealed, while in patients without akathisia, favorable types of adaptation were found. The occurrence of akathisia led to a decrease in the subjective estimation of social functioning and adaptation on the SASS scale during long-term hospitalization
