The problems and contradictions that complicate the process of digitalization in the field of education are highlighted. The relevance of studies devoted to the formation of digital competencies in teachers is substantiated. The definitions of the concepts of “digital competencies” and “digital competence” presented in the scientific literature are analyzed. Approaches to defining the digital competencies of a teacher and the characteristics of a teacher with digital competence are presented. The main directions for improving the professional training of future and advanced training of current teachers in the field of digital literacy are shown. The concept of “digital mentor” is introduced. It is concluded that the task of improving the quality of professional training of teachers in the field of information technology is a key aspect of the current digital transformation of education.
