This study was conducted in 100 patients with acne of moderate severity. The flakes of skin of patients were examined in order to detect the presence of yeast colonization with Candida species and determine their role in the disease. According to the results of the study, microscopic examination of skin flakes in 81 (81%) patients with acne showed elements of fungi of the genus Candida. We developed the method of acne treatment by incorporating a broad-spectrum systemic antimycotic, fluconazole, into the basic therapy scheme. Based on the examination of clinical course of the disease and interrelated evaluation of the Candida species contamination degree in patients with facial acne, we optimized the combined therapy through the use of broad-spectrum antimycotics. The effectiveness of the new approach to treatment was proven based on the changes in psychosomatic status of patients with acne. Analysis of changes in Cardiff Acne Disability Index (CADI) showed that the quality of life in patients with acne improved.
