The research aims to seek pedagogical approaches used by the firearms instructor (or the commander) for forming learners' skills in firing service weapon, its task being selection of optimal methods and means of learning for effective pedagogical work among the trainees during four-six months of training. To achieve this the authors conducted a pedagogical experiment to prove the necessity of using physical means of training marksmanship and certain pedagogical methods. The respondents included two groups of trainees aged 22 to 25. The experiment showed the following outcomes: the experimental group received one unsatisfactory mark (7,69%), the control group received three unsatisfactory marks (27,27%). The results enable the authors to state that the marksmanship commander's pedagogical work among the trainees and application of effective learning methods during professional training are essential for professional skills in marksmanship.
