The relevance of research. In the context of expanding international cooperation, special requirements are also placed on foreign language training for university students, which is considered as one of the ways to achieve high-quality professional training for graduates. The need to improve the professionalism of specialists in the field of jurisprudence places new demands on personnel training, encourages the development of new technologies and the introduction of innovative methods of teaching and educating students. An important role in this process also plays the optimization of students’ independent work within the classroom and extracurricular classes in a foreign language. The purpose of the study is the scientific substantiation and practical implementation of a pedagogical model for optimizing the independent work of students studying in legal specialties in foreign language classes. Methodology (materials and methods). Research methods are a combination of theoretical and empirical. Research results. Positive changes in the level of students’ proficiency in independent work skills in foreign language classes were identified for all selected indicators in the process of implementing the pedagogical model. The discrepancies in the data in the control and experimental groups prove that the introduced pedagogical conditions, both individually and in combination, stimulate the formation of a high level of independent work of students in foreign language classes.
