The article discusses issues related to the development of new tourist routes across the territory of the Russian North. The limits of tourism development in the regional aspect are associated both with restrictions on the existing tourism infrastructure and the availability of tourist and recreational resources. Of certain importance is the degree of generation and accumulation of tourist narratives on the territory, allowing places of interest to be perceived as objects of tourist interest through created narratives about events presented to a potential tourist. The semiotic concept of the formation of a tourist space allows us to consider structurally historical events, coordinating them with the symbols and images of the territory. The purpose of this article was to study and generate experience in developing a tourist route based on the travel of Emperor Alexander I in the north of the Russian state in 1819 within the Olonets province. The work presents the main stages of the trip, including visits to such settlements as Lodeynoye Pole, Vytegra, Kargopol, Arkhangelsk, Petrozavodsk, Olonets. A review of the main tourist attractions visited by Emperor Alexander I, which will be of interest to the modern tourist, is made. The presented material can be used as a basis for designing the historical tourist route «The Tsar’s Route in the Russian North», and can become part of the travel information for tour guides working on the routes of the Republic of Karelia. Vologda, Arkhangelsk and Leningrad regions.
