Main novelties of the Federal Law "On citizenship of the Russian Federation" 2023

The article is devoted to one of the topical topics in the science of constitutional law, since citizenship as a stable legal connection of a person with the Russian Federation, expressed in the totality of their mutual rights and obligations, is one of the most important elements of the constitutional and legal status of an individual. In the presence of Russian citizenship, a person acquires full rights, freedoms and duties. The purpose of the article is to determine the main novelties of modern legislation on citizenship of the Russian Federation and the trends of its development on the basis of comparative analysis. With the adoption of Federal Law № 138-FZ dated April 28, 2023 «On Citizenship of the Russian Federation», reflecting modern social and political realities, a new period of formation of the institution of citizenship begins. The presence of significant novelties concerning the grounds and procedure for the acquisition and termination of Russian citizenship, norms of a substantive and procedural nature, necessitates the study of the new federal law on citizenship in order to ensure the effectiveness of its implementation mechanism.
